PATRATU THERMAL POWER STATION COLLEGE, PATRATU, was established in 1972 to cater to the educational needs of an Industrial-cum-rural area where a Thermal Power Station raised new hopes and aspirations. An intermediate-level college in 1972, it was upgraded to a multifaculty Degree college, affiliated to the then Ranchi University in 1980- 81. Dr.(Mrs.) Sushila Kerketta, the founder Principal, took pains to raise the academic and administrative standards of the college, as a reward for which the  University Grants Commission admitted it under section 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act.

The College imparts education in the faculties of  Science, Humanities and Social Sciences and  Commerce up to Honours level of the Degree course.

It stands among the leading  Permanently  Affiliated  Colleges now under Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, having more than two thousand five hundred students on rolls.
